Biography – David
Combes
In the last few years
David
has built a strong reputation on the
London
session singing circuit and has sung
with artists as diverse as
Beyoncé
Knowles, Westlife, Elton John, Annie
Lennox, Lemar, Keith Urban
and
Faith Hill.
He
can be heard on numerous prime time TV shows including
Grease is the Word and
Britain’s Got Talent and
has
provided the backing vocals for
The X Factor series 2007,
2006 and
2005 as well as
The
X Factor – Battle of the Stars;
subsequently recording the backing vocals for
Andy Abraham and
Ray Quinn’s debut
albums. In 2007 he provided additional vocals for
Connie Fisher,
RyanDan
and Andrea Ross’s debut
albums and has just appeared as
a soloist on Radio 2 with the BBC Concert Orchestra in both their
Bernstein Gala and 40
years of Friday Night is
Music Night celebration concert, singing music from the 70s. David
has recently completed a tour as guest soloist with the RAF
Massed Bands as well as singing for the both Toyota
and The British Tourist Board at Excel in London's
Docklands and for Party in the Park in Dubai.
David was in the final cast of the musical
Cats
and has worked on productions of
Grease,
Starlight
Express and
Saturday
Night
Fever in
London’s
West End
and as a member of the
Elektravox
ensemble for the symphonic Queen concert
Another Kind of Magic,
as well as two European arena tours of
Fame – the Musical.
David is in regular demand as a vocal coach and is responsible for
Ensemble and Classic and Contemporary Style tuition at
Vocaltech
College
(vocal-tech.co.uk) and Ensemble singing at
Thames
Valley
University.
In 2006 he
sung for the
The
Prince’s Trust 30th Anniversary at the
Tower
of
London
and was asked back to sing for
Lionel
Richie during the
BBC Prom in the Park in
Hyde Park.
He has also appeared as a soloist with the Manchester Concert
Orchestra in their Cole
Porter Celebration, and later with the Scottish National
Orchestra in
Glasgow.
He works with the jazz based 8 part close harmony group
Voxtet
and has performed in function bands at both
The
Grosvenor and
Dorchester
hotels in
London.
As a mark of his versatility David has toured with
Lesley Garrett, Michael Ball
and Michael Crawford
and performed at the Disney
Family Prom which was broadcast on BBC1. He sang with a close
harmony Glenn Miller tribute group at The Royal Albert Hall,
provided
backing vocals for The Pop Idols’ Christmas album –
The Xmas Factor - and
sang at the opening of the
Wales Millennium Centre with
Bonnie Tyler. He is a
regular contributor to both
The Royal Variety Show and
Children in Need and has
worked with Will Young,
Gareth Gates, and Ronan
Keating.
David has contributed to the film soundtracks of
Pirates of the
Carribean 3: At World’s End,
The Da
Vinci Code, The Corpse
Bride, Troy, The Island, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory,
Curse of The Were Rabbit,
The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, The Lion King 1 1/2,
Evita,
and Jesus Christ Superstar
and has made numerous broadcasts for BBC Radio. His television
credits include
Saturday Night Live,
Saturday Swings,
Give Your Mate a Break,
and This Is Your Moment
- including recording the title song.
